With the VGT turbos on a Cummins they close them to about 89% to increase exhaust back pressure, which increases load on the engine, which increases exhaust heat. 1100 is fast enough. Regens can last up to 2.5 hours with an ISX. 40 mins is about average. Keep track as best you can how long they are taking.
It's been changed and updated a few times since DPF's became more common. Originally a regen was said to take no more than 15mins. That's now about 25mins but may take more. A regen can happen as long as the engine speed is above 2000rpm but closer to 3000 is preferred.
Warm up the engine. It should be running for at least 3 or 4 minutes before starting regen. Press and hold the regeneration button for a few seconds, until the regen warning light goes off and the regen process light starts to blink. Wait for the process to finish, about 30 to 40 minutes.
All vehicle models in the population have been identified with at least one of these DPF regeneration frequency diagnostic conditions: The ECM DTC P2459 regeneration frequency diagnostic does not adequately detect when DPF regeneration occurs more frequently than should be expected based on engine operating conditions.
I think my regen's normally start around 80 DPF load. Regen length I would put at 17-20 minutes (I use an FBC). All the regens I've seen on the highway seem to stop around 20 DPF load. I have only seen passive regen directly after an active regen. The regen stops at 20 like clockwork, but will continue to fall for a little bit settling around 18.
The feedback sensors on or near the DPF help the vehicle’s computer monitor its functionality. If there are irregularities in the pressure limits for two running cycles, the P2002 code appears. After successful regeneration, the P2002 will clear. Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration. DPF regeneration usually happens automatically.
A standard forced regen is under 40 minutes; if yours typically last for an hour or more, this may indicate an issue. A Blocked DOC The diesel oxidation catalyst is the first filter in the aftertreatment system.
